Kinesio Taping is the use of Kinesio tex tape to support muscles and joints as they heal. It is a method that helps the body’s natural healing process by lifting the affected area and thereby reducing inflammation, allowing the body to heal itself more easily. It also can reduce pain in the injured area. Kinesio Tape is made of breathable material and has the elasticity of human muscle fibers. Kinesio Taping is used in conjunction with manual therapy and other techniques. It can be used on a wide range of patients, from pediatric to geriatric.

A Kinesio Tape practitioner will first evaluate your condition and manually treat you. After, he or she may apply kinesio tape to your skin in order to help you heal while not at therapy. The tape is applied directly to the skin and can stay on during all activities, including bathing. It can stay on for about 3 to 5 days, in most cases, or from one therapy treatment to the next.

Kinesio Taping should not be confused with other taping techniques, such as White Athletic Taping, and Kinesio Tape can often be recognized by its bright colors. These colors have nothing to do with different effects of the tape, but are a matter of individual preference.
