Replantation of a limb involves the reattachment of the individual parts of the upper extremity. This procedure requires alignment and repair of skeletal, muscular, vascular and neural tissue. Replantation procedures are increasingly more common made possible by technological developments and advancements in microsurgery.

OT intervention in this population is focused on restoring motor, sensory and functional use of the affected upper extremity and may include:

  • Splinting
  • Edema and scar management
  • Range of motion (ROM) exercises
  • ADL training
  • Electrical stimulation
  • Sensory Reeducation
