Spinal Conditions

Back pain is the most common reason people seek physical therapy. In order to provide successful rehabilitation to our patients suffering from spinal conditions, we make sure to:

  • Assess the problem
  • Create an individualized treatment plan
  • Educate patients about prevention of future recurrence

Our physical therapy specialists are extensively trained in manual therapy and spinal stabilization. Our specialists can treat a variety of conditions affecting the spine, such as:

  • Low back pain
  • Sacroiliac joint dysfunction
  • Thoracic pain
  • Neck pain
  • Disc herniations
  • Sciatica pain
  • Whiplash injuries
  • ●       Sports Injuries
  • Often, sports injuries result from poor training practices or improper gear.
  • Common sports injuries include:
  • Sprains and strains
  • Knee injuries
  • Achilles Tendon Injuries
  • Shin Splints
  • Fractures
  • Dislocations

Sports Injuries

  • Acute injury occurs abruptly when playing or exercising. For example, a sprained ankle, strained back, or fractured hand may occur as a direct result of playing.
  • Chronic injuries occur over the course of a few months or years. This means that they can occur if you’ve been playing a sport for a long time.

At AmeriCare Physical Therapy, we offer rehabilitation services for patients who have sports injuries. This includes exercising the injured area to help it heal. Stretching and using weights also play a key role in recovery from sports injuries.

Joint Replacements

After a patient undergoes joint replacement surgery, they need help getting used to the prosthetic joint. Our physical therapy exercises can help strengthen the muscles and tendons surrounding the joint.

At AmeriCare Physical Therapy, we help our patients recover from joint replacement surgery through:

  • Range-of-motion exercises
  • Progressive muscle-strengthening exercises
  • Body awareness and balance training
  • Activity-specific training

Vertigo

Vertigo is an inner ear disorder that causes dizziness when you move your head in certain positions. For example, dizziness most commonly occurs when you’re lying down, turning over in bed, or looking up.

Our expert physical therapists will evaluate your condition by determining the cause of your vertigo. Then, we’ll create a specialized treatment plan. The goal is to get you moving again, while at the same time managing your vertigo.

Jaw Pain (TMD)

Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD) is a condition affecting the jaw muscles. There are many causes of TMB such as:

  • Bad posture
  • Jaw clenching when asleep
  • Teeth alignment issues
  • Jaw fractures
  • Trismus (“lockjaw”)

To identify what’s causing your TMD, your AmeriCare physical therapist will ask about your medical history and conduct a physical examination of your jaw and neck. This exam will usually involve examining your posture and how your neck moves as well as checking for any abnormalities in jaw movement.

If the examination suggests that your TMD is a result of teeth misalignment, then your physical therapist will refer you to a dentist. However, if your therapist determines the TMD isn’t related to teeth alignment, your therapist can help restore the movement of your jaw and reduce your pain through:

  • Posture education
  • Jaw exercises
  • Manual therapy
  • ●       Concussion
  • A concussion is a brain injury that can cause:
  • Temporary vision problems
  • Problems with speech
  • Balance issues
  • Memory loss

We’ll work closely with other health professionals to help treat your concussion. We’ll also create a personalized neck and core strengthening program to help minimize the risk of future concussions.

Pelvic Floor

Whether you’re a female dealing with postpartum pelvic floor weakness or a male suffering with vasectomy pain, our therapy can help restore the functions of your pelvic floor--which is to support your organs.

Orthopedic Care

Our orthopedic physical therapists are dedicated to helping patients dealing with disorders that affect the:

  • Bones: Living, growing tissue made up of a mineral called calcium, which makes bones hard and strong. Bones provide structure for the body and protect vital organs.
  • Muscles: Soft tissue that connect with ligaments and bone,
  • Ligaments: Connective tissue that attaches bone to bone.
  • Tendons: Connective tissue that attaches muscle to bone.

The bones, muscles, ligaments, and tendons all make up the musculoskeletal system, and they’re responsible for helping the body flex, bend, and move. Our orthopedic specialists can diagnose, manage, and prevent musculoskeletal disorders by improving their mobility, reducing pain through manual therapy, performing therapeutic exercise, and providing patient education.

Through splinting, activity, modification, and other interventions, we can help restore your hands and wrist their previous condition.

Dupuytren’s Contracture

This condition causes the connective tissue under the skin of your palm to thicken and become scar-like. As a result, many people suffering from Dupuytren's may experience restricted movement because the thickened tissue causes several fingers to curl inward toward the palm.

This can cause problems with performing daily activities. Treatment for Dupuytren's often involves extension splinting, active range of motion, and scar/edema management.

Replantations

Replantation surgery involves reattaching an amputated limb to its original place.

Our occupational therapists can help you restore the function of your upper extremities with splinting, edema and scar management, electrical stimulation, and sensory re-education.
